| Nick Gillespie |
Gillespie, playing out of Wellington but considered by many to be at home in Hastings, was tied with Auckland's Ryan Fox after the first day, and was not looking like the winner through nine holes.
Mark Brown of Wellington had posted an early last round score of 65 to put a nine under par total on the board, and he in turn was hotly pursued by Northland's Alex Tait who also shot 65, at one stage making seven threes in a row in playing the back nine in 30.
Fox scored a 71, mixing three birdies with two bogeys, to tie Leighton James, Hastings (68 69), Kieran Muir, Omokoroa (67 70) and Jared Pender, Tauranga (68 69).
