I believe 2018 has been a good one for the Club. Topics covered in this update include 2017/18 financial results and AGM, Upcoming Management Committee elections, Cart Shed decision & Competition Results. 2017/18 Financial Results In summary, backing out the irrigation levy, the financial result for the year was a surplus of $61,140 (a positive variance to budget of $44,040). Non tagged (free) cash balances increased in the year from $86,712 to $99,785 (+15.06%). This is after capital expenditures of $107,622 approved by the Management Committee. Tagged funds increased from $200,411 to $279,211 which was mostly irrigation funds. All round a good financial result. Please see the full financial details in the Annual Report which will be discussed in more detail at the AGM on Wednesday 4th December in the clubhouse at 7:30pm. Remember, immediately after the AGM the best type of refreshments will be available and is a good time to catch up with the Management Committee, hopefully we will see you there. Management Committee Elections It is fantastic to see the level of interest of members, five, standing for two positions on the Management Committee. All the background information provided by nominees and voting forms have been posted to eligible members, as required in our constitution. Please commit to researching who you wish to vote for and place your vote in the Ballot Box, in the office, by 4:00pm on Tuesday 4th December 2018. If for any reason you haven't received the above please contact Michelle Campbell. Cart Shed Facilities Thank you to those members who attended the cart shed meeting held late September. Subsequently the Management Committee made the decision to proceed with enclosing the existing lean-to on the newer steel cart shed, an increase of 11 cart spaces. We have applied for grant funding via two organisations. Once the outcome of these applications are known we will then finalise the funding options for members. Assuming the support indicated by users materialises we will then complete this initiative ASAP. Competition Results Well done to all members who participated in club and interclub competitions during the year, and congratulations to the winners. Although participation levels do not appear as high as previous years, (are we all getting older or what?), but the standard is up there when considering: Come from behind Greenwood Cup win Excellent Pennants team results for men and women Stuart Duff representing New Zealand in Japan in the 2018 Asia Pacific Senior Amateur Championship Shootout participation Cafe/Bar We continue to receive very positive feedback regarding the changes to the cafe and bar which is heartening. This is all part of the programme to attract functions. If members would consider this venue as an option for any of their upcoming events we would appreciate your support of Hastings Golf Club. I wish all members, your family and friends, an enjoyable year-end to 2018 and a successful 2019. Peter Clayton President |
