NZ Seniors Championship
Allow images
If you haven't already heard the NZ Seniors tournament held here at Bridge Pa was a resounding success!

Our own Stuart Duff went back to back to win on his home course with rounds of 72, 71 and 71 winning with a 4 shot lead over Michael Barltrop.

It was fantastic to see so many members here volunteering and supporting fellow club members participating.

We really did 'lay it on' for the participants and the addition of the Garden Bar set the scene and created the atmosphere we were hoping to achieve.

Comments were flowing as our team worked tirelessly through the duration of the tournament.

This email received following the event:
"The course was second to none and the surfaces were exemplary, but the stand out was the staff - courtesy, understanding and happy - nothing was an effort.  Well done, truly a lasting memory."

Golf Hawke's Bay & Poverty Bay Women Inc AGM Notice

2018/19 Trinity Hill Summer League
Another sensational summer league for the season has finished with the team from Pita Pit taking out this years competitions.  They bet Bad As Mother Putters in the final for the matchplay (for the second year in a row!) and pipped Mudgway Partsworld for the overall series.  To go with the trophy they win a special Trinity Hill Experience to be enjoyed by the team and celebrate their victory.
Thank you to the team at Trinity Hill for sponsoring the event this season.  Everyone was chuffed to win a bottle of your fine product each week.

Membership Categories
Members please adhere to the restrictions of your membership category as we have noticed a few are playing outside of these.  Please do report in to the Pro Shop to draw a scorecard prior to teeing off.

Handicap Competitions in Matchplay
After discussions with NZ Golf we have amended the way handicap matchplay is played.  The below is wording from the USGA which explains it all pretty well... and to keep things nice and simple it is the way we have played it at Hastings Golf Club in the past.  There was some confusion to the wording in the new rule book but please note the following.  In short - nothing changes for any competitions which have not yet started.

9-4a/1. Players Choose to Use Full Handicaps in Singles Match Play

Q: In singles match play, Player A has a Course Handicap of 17 and Player B has a Course Handicap of 13. Based on Section 9-4a(i), Player A may receive four strokes from Player B on the holes allocated as the first four handicap-stroke holes. The players decide to play the match with their full Course Handicap, A taking a handicap stroke on 17 holes and B taking a handicap stroke on 13 holes. Is this procedure equitable?

A: No. Handicap-stroke holes are established to maximize the number of halved holes in a match by assigning strokes where Player A most needs four strokes in order to obtain a half on those holes. If both A and B receive strokes on those four holes, the better player (B) will have a greater chance of winning those holes. On holes allocated 14, 15, 16, and 17, A will receive strokes and B will not. A will have a greater chance of winning those holes. The result will be more holes won and lost than halved and the better player (B) will have an advantage in the match.
