It was great to see a good turnout on both Saturday and Tuesday for the recommencement of the winter programme. I also joined the 9-hole Wednesday ladies for coffee and enjoyed their enthusiasm and camaraderie.
Match Play competitions

The draws for these competitions are on the noticeboard, and many matches have already been played. Thanks to everyone for playing their matches within the time frames.
Club Champs
Entries close for Club Champs on 6 July, please add your name to the draw in the locker room if you haven’t done so already. I am also pleased to announce that this year there will be a 9-hole Club Champ competition, the number of players who have already signed up for this is very encouraging.
Association Day
This is a major fundraising day for the HB Golf Association to assist with team rep costs. This year it is being held at Maraenui Golf Course on Monday July 13th. It is a stableford format with a shotgun start at 9:30am for 18 holes and 11:00am for 9 holes. Entry fee is $15 for 18 holes, and $10 for 9 holes, $2 for the 2’s competition. To ensure every player receives a prize, you are asked to take along a small gift (jam, chocolates, or similar) wrapped in newspaper to add to the prize table. There is an entry form in the locker room, please add your name if you would like to play and entries will be sent to the organisers.
Shootout
Good to see some names already on the board. Just a slight amendment to my original announcement – entry order is based on the best three stableford scores. It was decided that this would enable more cards to be entered, and apart from LGU days this is the preferred format for most games, allowing for a better pace of play if you are unable to score on any hole.
Winter Trophies
We would appreciate it if you could return any trophies won last year. It is still some time before prizegiving, but sometimes trophies get misplaced so it would be great to have these all back in the cabinet so there’s no last-minute panic. Trophies are now identified in the cabinet with the current holder’s name, so this is another opportunity for the winners to be recognised by their peers.
Waipukurau Tournament
Waipukurau Golf Club have a tournament on Friday July 3rd (postponement 24 July). There are gross, nett and stableford prizes. Meet at 9:15am for morning tea, then 18 holers tee off at 10am, and 9 holers follow at 11:30am. Entry is $25 for 18 holes, and $15 for 9 holes. Includes morning tea and twos. An entry form is in the locker room, please add your name to the list if you would like to play.
HB Representative Trials
Hawke's Bay will be entering teams in three representative fixtures this year:
29th & 30th August, the Judy Pearson @ Manawatu. To be confirmed
10th & 11th October, the Sybil Green in Taranaki @ Te Ngutu
1st week December, the Interprovincial @ Akarana in Auckland
If you have a handicap of 13 or lower and would like to trial for the HB team, please contact me and I will provide your details to the selectors.
