With winter frosts well and truly impacting golf it is timely to remind members of the club's frost policy.  

 

Early times are lost

 

Women's Day - ladies have priority even when delay by frost

 

Players that fail to make the turn by 11:30am must give way to the afternoon field

 

Early times that miss out due to frost miss out.  If frost cancels all play, including the business ladies tee times, the business ladies will have priority on the course when it re-opens with a last tee time of 9:45am.  This could mean a slight delay to the afternoon field but should allow the majority of the afternoon field to complete play.

 

Please be mindful of these conditions when booking your times and understand the pro shop will do their very best to ensure as many people as possible can get on the tee.

The first of four trial dates for the HB Masters team will be held at Hastings this coming Sunday, 22 July 2018.  36 holes will be played with the first tee times starting from 7:30am.

 

The other dates are:

Napier            12 August

Maraenui         2 September

Onga Onga    22 or 23 Sept (TBA) 

 

The best 6 of 8 rounds count towards qualification and in the event of a tie a play off hole will decide the spot.

 

There are five playing spots and a reserve/manager.  The Masters tournament will be held in Taupo 12-16 November 2018.

Three matters for your consideration.

 

Please note that you can play on your own, as a two, threes and foursomes - but please don't play in fives.  It is club policy that five-ball play is not allowed for the reason it slows play and no one is fond of a slow group of golfers.  Don't be that golfer.... or group of golfers.

 

The reason we have the two tee starts on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday is to provide members with the best available tee time during competitions and it enables them to be upstairs in the bar together following their games.

 

On the other four days there may be a two tee start if we get a group of visitors.  However, with a two tee start we have dead time - specifically 9am-11m, and then again 1pm-3pm.  These times prove popular to groups - especially the 10am-11am spot on a Friday when we have visitors in town.  The clubs green fee revenue has risen sharply in the past few years due to being more aware and efficient with our use of tee sheets.  More happy golfers using our magnificent facility and increased green fee revenue.

 

One tee starts assist the greenkeepers - it allows them to work ahead of the advancing players without interruption to their work or the players games.

 

They may also be used in winter to allow time for greens to defrost.

 

Makes the course more welcoming to impulse golfers, both members and visitors who haven't booked a tee time on a gloriously fine day and ring up for a game around 10am and are told to come on out rather than 'no sorry'.

 

Allows for more efficient utilisation of course from 'dawn till dusk'.
