Dear Guest,

Captains Update – October 2025

Well, that was a windy start to the beginning of October. I’m looking forward to some settled weather and to enjoying the extra hours of daylight, adding a bit more time to be out on the course.

I hope that you enjoyed watching the Ryder Cup which was a little too exciting on the last day, for those of us originally from Europe.

It has been fun getting to know more of our lovely members and playing with some of you. I hope by now, you can put a face to a name, via the photo in the Women’s locker room.

Here are few pieces of information to keep you informed this month and please key an eye on the notice board in the locker room, for the key events coming up.

Just to reiterate that next Tuesday 7th, is the annual Tuesday Men vs Tuesday Women competition. It’s a 10:00am Shotgun Start. Just let the pro shop know if you’d like to enter. Its open to all so please join in.

September Highlights

Mona Hunter Memorial Cup

On the 22nd, we had a full field of 12 of our members playing against Waipukurau and Napier for the Mona Hunter Memorial Cup, an annual event based on average Stableford for the team. Hastings won for the first time since 2018. It was a great morning and thank you to Sarm Bojesen-Trepka with 44 points which certainly impacted the team’s average.

Emerre and Hathaway Ladies Open Poverty Bay

13 of our players from Hastings spent a couple of days away in Gisborne. Sounds like it was a fun trip with success for many of the ladies even more golf being played in Wairoa on the trip back!

Coring - Course Closure

The Couse is closed Monday 13th - Wednesday 15th October. How about getting a group together and taking part in the Porangahau Open on Monday 13th. It’s always a great day and they would appreciate your support. The details are on the board in the Locker room. Open to all including a 9-hole division.

Balls

There are 2 large drums in Women’s locker rooms for used golf balls. These are for Junior Golf (Jasmine) and new Women members to use. Please donate any used balls and tees you can spare.

Cup Protectors

You might have noticed the green keepers are using white “cup protectors” in the holes, with their main aim being to protect the integrity of the lip of the holes (and make them easier to see). So far, they are happy that they are doing what they are designed for but have noticed that they can be pulled too far up when players pull the flag out or retrieve their ball from the hole. This creates a situation where the raised lip has undesirable consequences. Please be mindful of this when removing the flag or your ball. The green keepers are also keen to hear feedback, so come through me if you have any.

Happy Golfing

Jill
