Our last update for the year and lots to say. It has been very busy during November with quite a few events for the Women members.
Melbourne Cup /Winter Prize-giving members - November
Our end of season prize-giving closing day competition was held on Melbourne Cup Day with some really fancy fascinators coming out for the day. It was well supported by you all. We had 70 entries plus several non-player supporters. It certainly was a fun day with the teams of 6 and the ability to tee up anywhere certainly made the rough easier to handle. A great day to celebrate the achievements of our Women’s players throughout the year. Congratulations to all who received Trophies and Prizes.

Champion of Champions Sunday 16th November - Maraenui
The Hastings Team of Diana Syer, Andrea Percival and Robyn Kelly played in the District Gross Stableford Rosebowl and were runners up on the day, just two points behind Napier.
Congratulations to Vicki Sutcliffe in winning the 9- Hole Champion of Champions.
Diana Syer, Andrea Percival and Patsy White were all Runners–up in the Senior, Intermediate and Junior sections respectively. A great result for our Club and lovely to see the support for our team there at Maraenui.
Pennants Men v Pennants Women 22nd November
It was another tough challenge with the Women taking out the Trophy for yet another season. There were some very close matches going to the last hole but all in all, a great day out and a wonderful opportunity for many of you to meet and mix with the Men’s Pennants Players.
The team was represented by: Robyn Stallard (Captain), Jo Wheater, Louise Sanko, Ruby Jarvis, Kate Barr, Karen Major, Anna Wood, Nic Dallas, Andrea Percival, Sandra O’Sullivan, Leyth Martin, Phillipa Cook, Rosemary Burns, Vicki Berkahn, Caroline Young and Christine Bird.
The Women won the Individual Match Play by 9 points and won the 4 Ball Best Ball by 6 Points
The players are already looking forward to next year’s challenge.
Edna Farrell – Tuesday Christmas Cheer – Tuesday 25th November
The rain held off and with a fresh wind behind us, it was wonderful to see you all getting into the Christmas Spirit, dressing up and playing in the competition. We had 52 players and 13 teams vying for the Team Prizes. Format was 18 Holes Stableford and the Team was 3 out of 4 Stableford. Lots of fun and laughs. Father Christmas joined us to play, but he looked a lot like AJ.

Di Syer achieved 40 Stableford points as runner -up in the Edna Farrel Competition with a Gross 71.
Wednesday Christmas Cheer – Wednesday 26th November
Once again, our members really embraced the Christmas Cheer dressing up in their outfits. A bit more sun than the day before and luckily an early tee off to escape the full force of the sun. The format was 9 Holes -Team Ambrose. We welcomed the men who often play alongside the women on a Monday, and it was good to see them join in the fun. This year we opened the Christmas Cheers so all our members could find a day to suit them.

In closing, my short term as Club Captain is coming to an end and I want to thank you, the members, for your support and encouragement in what has been a real learning curve for me. It has been a privilege to be involved in Women’s Golf and to get to know so many more of you.
I welcome Jo Wheater as our new Club Captain together with Robyn Kelly and Vicki Sutcliffe who will also be members of the Golf Committee, and I encourage you in supporting them in their roles.
A huge thankyou to everyone involved in the workings of the club. It takes a team to achieve all that we have.
This is my last Women’s Update. I wish you all a Wonderful Christmas and may you enjoy your time with family and friends. I look forward to seeing you all on the course next year.
