I hope everyone enjoyed a hot summer holiday and back looking forward to some good golfing.
Competitions
We are continuing with the same format as last year’s competitions. The main competitions being the Baker Cup and LGU for 18 holes and the Sutcliffe Cup and Home links for 9 holes.
Our 18 hole winter competitions start on 3rd February with R1 LGU.
The 9 hole competitions start on 11th February with R1 LGU and Sutcliffe Cup.
18 hole Baker Cup
A season long Stableford competition. Your highest Stableford points from 7 out of 14 rounds is counted towards your overall score. The player with the most points wins the Baker Cup. There are 3 divisional trophies for the winners of Silver, Bronze I and Bronze II. Handicap ranges for the divisions is determined after round 14 is completed and is based on all players that have completed 7 rounds. This is to ensure even participation across the divisions.
18 hole LGU
This is a national competition. Monthly rounds of net medal allocated, 10 a year. Top 4 scores count. Medals awarded for winners of Silver, Bronze I and Bronze II.
9 hole The Sutcliffe Cup
This a season long Stableford competition. Your highest Stableford points from 4 out of 10 rounds is counted towards your overall score. The player with the most points wins the trophy.
9 hole LGU and Home links
During the year Golf NZ runs club competitions where you compete against your own club players and the rest of NZ. Golf NZ provides a medal as a prize.
Winter Opening Day on Wednesday 18th Feb 2026
The opening day will be a combined nine-hole competition, and the closing day will be a combined 18-hole competition.
This will be 9-hole Ambrose competition combining 18-hole and 9-hole players. We will have a high tea afterwards. You can play with your friends, or we can put you with other players. Be great if we can have a good turnout for this event. Information and entry will be posted in the women’s locker room.
Pennants/Crossman Cup
The first pennants game of 2026 is the 18-hole on 23rd February. This year we have two 18 hole teams with 6 players in each. Two 9-hole teams and one weekend Crossman team. We are also playing at two different courses – Onga Onga and Karamu.
The draws and sheets are up in the women’s locker room. If you are wanting to play check that your name is on the list and marked if you would like to play or be a reserve. If your circumstances have changed and you are now unavailable, please take yourself off the list.
Wallace Development Hastings Open
This is on 24th and 25th January. Good luck to those that have entered.
