The Management Committee had its first scheduled meeting of the year on Thursday. We were pleased to welcome our new committee members - Jared McGillicuddy, Joanne Wheater and Matthew Bennett.
Brett debriefed us on the Wallace Development Pro-am and the Wallace Development Hastings Open. Despite the weather on the day of the Pro-am both events we agreed were successful, judging from all positive feedback from the players. Thank you to Wallace Development and to Hawke’s Bay BMW for their valued sponsorship of these events.
The Management Committee agreed that, when looking at the clubs to which we align ourselves, it is time to review our green fees – upwards. A new green fee structure will be prepared for the committee to approve at its next meeting, and these will come into effect on 1 April. This information will go out to members as soon as it has been approved. Green fees will not increase for our local Hawke’s Bay reciprocal club members.
At the beginning of the summer months club member Wayne Yule formed a course patrol to marshal the course in the late afternoon in an attempt to ensure green fees are paid by the “walk on no pay” non-members. This initiative of Wayne’s has been very successful, and we acknowledge the volunteer efforts and time given to the effort by Wayne along with his team Kris Bower, Justin Campbell and Tony Lythgoe.
Your newly elected Management Committee recently took part in a Good Governance Workshop, reaffirming our commitment to leading Hastings Golf Club with transparency, accountability, and a strong focus on the future.
The workshop highlighted the importance of working on the club’s direction and strategy, rather than becoming involved in day-to-day operations.
Key areas covered included understanding the club’s purpose and culture, balancing performance (value creation and forward planning) with conformance (accountability and assurance), and maintaining high standards of behaviour through a shared Code of Conduct.
The Committee is enthusiastic about applying these principles to ensure our club remains vibrant, sustainable, and member-focused into the future.
The golf season is about to begin, and we hope to have an impressive number of entries in all the competitions, trophies and championships. Your Club Captains will keep you up to date. Our social media platforms have already stepped up impressively due to our new provider (thank you Sticky Carrots Media!) so we are expecting communication of all club golf events and results to be the best ever.
Happy golfing.
