MAY 2026

May has brought some great weather with many women on the golf course. There was 50 women out playing golf a couple of weeks ago. Let’s keep it up. Firstly, the good news with all the great golf being played.

Ruby Jarvis is continuing to play strongly with a 69 on Saturday, including 7 birdies. She has been representing Hawke’s Bay in the secondary golf champs and has been busy playing in tournaments around the country. During the holidays, she came 3rd - Under 16 Girls Gross 77,76 at the Hawke’s Bay Age Groups, 3rd -Women’s Gross 76,74,76 at the Wairarapa Open and 1st - Under 16 Girls Gross 74, 76 at the Manawatu-Whanganui Age Groups.

Ruby also represented Hawke's Bay in the Shand Salver Team against Wellington, Manawatu Whanganui and Taranaki with the following results:

Rd 1: cancelled due to rain

Rd 2: 1 up win

Rd 3: 5/4 win

Following her win at the HBSS last week, Ruby travelled to Taranaki to compete in her first Charles Tour event. The Charles Tour is for New Zealand professionals and elite amateurs, and it gave Ruby the opportunity to compete at a high level. Ruby finished third in the Women’s Amateur field.

Niamh McGillicuddy represented Woodford House at the Hawke’s Bay Secondary Schools Golf Tournament. Niamh shooting an impressive 78, helping the team finish 9th out of 19 teams.

Individually, Niamh achieved an outstanding result, winning the Girls’ Nett title and placing 3rd in the Girls’ Gross competition.

Fantastic performances from our juniors with a promising future ahead for both.

NZ WOMENS MASTERS

Diana Syer and Martha Manaena were selected for this tournament in Taupo. Diana came 4th and Martha 34th. Very impressive results considering the bad weather and tough competition.

Good luck and ensure you play your events early to avoid delays.

KAWEKA SERIES

This is a five-week series with one event played each season and a finale that you can qualify for through the lead-up events. Kaweka has generously agreed to sponsor this event and there will be a $10 entry fee (all the entry funds go to the prize pool to be spilt in the final). In the women’s division - $75 / $25 is up for prizes. Divisions will be altered per round based on equity for the number of entries. If a person wins two rounds the runner up will go into the final.

At the end of the year, there will be a finale for those that managed to qualify through the series. You qualify by winning the net division of each competition.

Second round is 27th June

Third round 22nd Aug

Fourth round 10th October

WEEKLY COMPETITION HIGHLIGHTS

AUDREY KELLY SALVER

Louise Newbigin had a net 69. This will be tough to bet on Saturday. This is a national competition so the best result will be up against the rest of the country.

GRIEVE SALVER

There were some very high scores with Jocelyn and Peter McClelland winning with combined stableford 48. Jocelyn contributed 44 Stableford points.

BAKER CUP

We are into round 3 out of 10 rounds so plenty of time for more scorecards to come in.

LGU

9-Hole Competitions

The 9-hole ladies have also begun their season with the first rounds of the LGU and Sutcliffe Cup.

NANCY MacCORMICK FOURSOMES

The winners were Linda Nicholson and Jo Wheater.

CAMPBELL CUP and BILL & MARY

Campbell Cup final Vicky Berkahn defeated Leyth Martin.

Bill and Mary Cup final Robyn Stallard defeated Sandra O’Sullivan.

Pennants / Crossman Cup 

18 Hole, 9 Hole Pennants and Crossman Cup competition is well on the way.

Crossman Cup had their last match, winning two of their 3 matches.

NATIONAL TEAMS

Napier won the District Final on Monday 4th May at Maraenui.

LUCY MAY

Won by Hawkes Bay.  The singles was a draw and combined stableford win 3/1.

Robyn Stallard was awarded a medal for representing Hawke’s Bay four times in the Lucy May.

BAY BRONZE

Won by Hawkes Bay.  The singles Hawke’s Bay won 5/3 and combined stableford Hawke’s Bay won 3/1.

GRETA CHRIST

Greta played her last match on 8th May after being a club member for 58 years. She started playing golf when the club was known as Hastings Ladies Golf Club. While a member of the club she was Hastings Ladies President for two years.
