Member Engagement Session
As Robyn mentioned in her update last week, a Member Engagement Session will be held on Monday 19th October, 5:30pm.
To register, please email admin@hastingsgolfclub.co.nz. Numbers will be limited so, if needed, another session will be held at a later date.
ON-LICENCE EXTENSION APPROVED
Bringing Food & Beverage Service to the Course
We’re pleased to let members know that the Club has successfully applied for and been granted an extension to our On-Licence, which now includes the golf course.
Under the conditions of licence, alcohol may be sold on the course Monday to Sunday between 11.00am and 5.00pm. A Duty Manager is required to actively monitor the sale, supply and consumption of alcohol across the licensed areas, so you will see our Duty Managers out and about on the course as part of their regular duties.
F&B on the Course - Coming Soon
Rather than simply having our Duty Managers patrol the course, we see this as a great opportunity to improve the service we provide to members and visitors.
We hope to shortly introduce a mobile food and beverage service while the Duty Manager is on course. This will initially operate as a trial, allowing us to gauge demand and member support before determining what an ongoing service might look like.
The cart will carry mobile EFTPOS – with Tap & Go available for easy payment while you play. Members can also charge purchases to their House Account, provided sufficient funds are loaded on the account.
A Friendly Reminder - No BYO
With the course now formally included within our licensed area, it’s also a timely reminder that Hastings Golf Club does not - and never has - held a BYO licence.
Any alcoholic beverages consumed on the Club’s licensed premises, including the golf course, must therefore be purchased through the Clubhouse or Pro Shop (and, once operating, our mobile F&B service).
We appreciate everyone’s support with this. Please don’t bring your own alcohol onto the course, and please don’t be offended if a Duty Manager asks you to remove or surrender beverages that have not been purchased from the Club.
The licence extension gives us an opportunity to combine our compliance responsibilities with a better on-course experience. We’re looking forward to trialling the new service and seeing how members support it.
Medical Leave – membership update
We have recently reviewed our membership arrangements and introduced a Medical Leave provision for members who, due to a significant illness or injury, are unable to play golf for an extended period.
Medical Leave is available for a minimum of four consecutive months and up to a maximum of 12 months. Members will remain in their existing membership category during this time, with a pro-rata credit applied to their next subscription instalment once the period of leave is confirmed. To qualify for a credit, the actual time away from golf must be at least four consecutive months.
For example, if a member has an operation and expects to be unable to play for four months, they can apply for Medical Leave. If their recovery goes well and they return to golf after three months, no credit will apply as the four-month minimum has not been reached. If they are away for the full four months, the appropriate pro-rata credit will be applied to their next subscription instalment.
We also recognise there may be circumstances where a member is unable to play because of a serious illness or injury affecting their spouse, partner or dependent. These situations can be referred to the General Manager and will be considered individually on a compassionate basis.
Medical Leave is intended for significant circumstances that result in an extended period away from golf, rather than shorter-term illness or injury. Members should get in touch as soon as reasonably possible if they believe they may qualify, as Medical Leave cannot be applied retrospectively.
We hope this provides some additional flexibility and support for members when unexpected health circumstances keep them away from golf for a significant period.
Greenwood Cup Results
The match on the weekend against Hawke’s Bay saw Hastings record a loss for round one of the competition. The second round was cancelled due to unplayable conditions, and we had a bye for round three.

The next rounds will be 31 Oct/1 Nov at Maraenui Golf Club.
