January 2020 Newsletter

I hope you all had a nice Christmas and New Year, while I haven’t been able to be on the course myself, I have been checking the computer to see who is out and about on the course.

Summer Competitions

These are well underway; updates are posted each week on the noticeboard.

Pennants and Crossman Cup

These winter interclub competitions will start again in March. As the largest club in the region it is good to be able to be represented with maximum team numbers. So, we do need as many as possible to put their names forward – either as a regular team member, or as a reserve player if you don’t feel you can commit to all games. We have committed to two Pennants (weekday) teams, each consisting of eight players, so we need at least 24 names to make sure we can easily fill the teams each game. For Crossman Cup (Sunday) we have one team, so need at least twelve names to help the captains put a team together. We are able to play Saturday players for Pennants, and weekday players for Crossman Cup if we are struggling to fill teams.

Dates and fixtures are on the noticeboard, and we welcome everyone to put their name down. If you’ve never played, we have scheduled a team practice day for Thursday February 20th so you can get an understanding of the format and scoring.

If you would like more information, please feel free to ring me anytime for a chat.

Shootout

At this point in time we don’t have a sponsor for this year’s shootout, so there is a possibility that it may not go ahead. Brett and I are considering various sponsorship options, and perhaps a revised format of the shootout. I would love to talk to anyone regarding their thoughts on either retaining the shootout as it is, or if you would prefer to try something a little different. Again, please ring me.

Summer Presentation Day

Please put this in your diary for Saturday 15th February and Tuesday 18th February. This is obviously a far smaller presentation day than the Winter version, but it is still nice to see as many of you as possible.

Lunch options on Tournament Days

Along with Kieran and the café staff, we do always try to make lunch as enjoyable an occasion as possible. It is difficult to suddenly cater for 50-60 women all arriving at the counter at the same time. We do try an come up with various solutions but have found it difficult to please the majority with any option we have tried. Any suggestions you have before a shotgun start day will be happily received and considered. I should remind you all that bringing back the old-style buffet table is not an option due to Food Health and Safety regulations.

Events Coming Up

Maraenui Women’s Tournament – January 18th and 19th.

There are two options: 54-hole match play, or 36-hole stableford. Please see the noticeboard for full details. Entries have officially closed, but if you would still like to enter there may be limited spaces available

Hastings Open – January 25th and 26th.

This is a 54-hole strokeplay tournament for Men and Women. The Women’s division is played off the yellow tees and there are gross and net prizes to be won. Entry is decided on handicap order.

If you would like to discuss anything in the newsletter, or have an idea that you would like to share I would love to hear from you. Please give me a call on 021 721635 anytime.

Happy golfing.

Liz
