Turf Maintenance Now Essential
Allow images
No doubt many of you will be aware from the media that turf maintenance has been approved as an essential service and course maintenance can resume from 14 April 2020.

Our team are now back working under strict conditions to meet the hygiene and social distancing rules set by MBIE but, they are back!   Work will now commence on bringing the course back after three weeks of growth and disease in the fairways.  Photo above of the women's 1st tee taken on Tuesday.

We are still waiting like the rest of the country on what coming out of lockdown could look like and liaising closely with NZ Golf also.  There are mixed messages on when the course will be able to be open for play at different levels and it can only be reopened when the course work has been done by the team and deemed playable again.  We will continue to communicate with members once we know.

WHS Now Live
14 April also marked the date that New Zealand joined 40 other countries in the World Handicap System.  Please click here to read the member info from NZ Golf.

Handicap indices will now change daily and you are encouraged to enter your scorecard directly at the completion of play (when this resumes).

No doubt everyone has been doing a lot of baking and cooking over the past few weeks and we're all missing the cheese scones.

Here's our famous recipe to have a go at!  If you're one of the lucky ones that has some flour give it a go and compare to our Fairways offering.  We'd love to see some photos, so send through to info@hastingsgolfclub.co.nz

Our “Famous” Cheese Scone Recipe

Chef: Kieran Jr Genge

Ingredients

4 cups Flour (plain)

4 cups Grated cheddar

4 teaspoons Baking Powder

350g of Grated Butter (salted)

400ml Milk – you may not need to use all of this!!

Method

Mix flour and baking powder

Grate butter into flour (good tip is to roll your butter between grating it as reduces clumping)

Add in cheese

Gently with your fingers combine all ingredients by lifting the mixture between your thumb and fingers (similar to a crumbing technique)

Make a well in the mixture and pour half of your milk into the middle

Folding the milk as if you were kneading dough of bread.

Gradually add more milk if needed until the mixture comes together it should not crumble, if so it’s to dry and if it looks shiny then it’s most likely to wet. You should be able to poke the mixture and no mixture should come away.

Lightly flour surface and rolling pin, not the mixture, then gently roll until it is the same thickness as your cutter.

Cut your scones and place on a metal tray sprayed with canola oil and bake for 15-20 minutes at 180C. Please note some ovens may vary. Be sure to use a tray with a rim on the edge.

Enjoy
