Forestry Work Complete

The clearing of the stumps and ground where the pine trees were felled is now complete.  The stumps were a lot bigger than anticipated as you can see from the image and the total area tidied up was 8.2 hect.  The stumps adjacent to No 17 was not in the plan therefore this area will remain in it's current state.

The piles of slash are now clean of dirt and should burn well in winter when this is finalised.

Thanks to Awakeri Contracting who came in to undertake the work for the club.

Futures Hawke's Bay - Juniors

Futures Hawke's Bay launches Monday 7th February!

Work has been finalised with a number of Hawke's Bay clubs for a very exciting Golf New Zealand initiative.  Introducing Futures Hawke's Bay - a hub for young people aged 5-18 to play in events and love the game of golf.

The launch event will be held at Napier Golf Club, Monday 7 February 2022. Please see notice boards for all information.

Junior Grading

Thanks to Jasmine Wilson, our pros and parent volunteers for undertaking the 2022 Junior Grading on Sunday with at least 20 juniors in attendance.  An exciting year ahead for our junior members, so if you see them about remember to encourage and support them.  They're learning skills to last a lifetime!

Covid Planning

With Omicron looming our team have made some alternations to ensure that we are best protected if/when this variant hits us.

From this week the greenkeeping team will split into two pods working staggered days.  The course is the club's main asset and ensuring we have two teams to have one 'take over' if we get caught is important planning.  A big thanks to the guys for adjusting and helping us get through this next phase.

As for the balance of the team; F&B, admin and pro shop staff numbers are limited and we don't have the resources to split in two based on the nature of club operations. Therefore, if a postivie case is recorded a risk exposure assessment will be undertaken to determine contact.  Please be aware, if any of our team are caught out there is potential the facilities may be required to close for a period of time due to the current isolation rules.

Mask Wearing

The rules for masks will change again this week and it's nothing different to our current club vaccination policy.  However, a reminder is needed as some members are forgetting what is required.

A mask must be worn in the pro shop as this is classed as retail space.

A mask must be worn into the locker rooms.

A mask is to be worn when entering the clubhouse. Once seated can be removed to eat and drink!  But if you need to go to the counter to place an order, use the bathrooms and when exiting a mask needs to be warn.

Our team are all doing their best to navigate the rules and your help is essential as no one likes having to police this.

Clubhouse Closure

The clubhouse will be closed this coming Sunday, 6 February 2022 due to the hospitality staff shortage.

Food and coffee available from the pro shop.

We continue to actively advertise and search for staff.

Guthrie Bowron Pro-Am

Monday 31st January saw the NZ PGA professionals arrive for the Guthrie Bowron Pro-Am.  Alan and Ed kindly put up the lions share of $12,500 for the pros to compete for and the amateurs had $5,000 worth of prizes to play for.

The main goal of the day was to raise as much money as possible for the Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter.  With Matt McDowall from Bayswater European taking over and running the auction for three fabulous prizes it has enabled provisional reports estimating the donation at approximately $15,000.  Thank you to everyone who purchased a raffle ticket and bid on the auction.

Kerry Mountcastle won the professionals event and took home $2,250 for his effort.

The story of the day was the Junior team taking out the teams event with their professional Kit Bittle.  Ruby (11) and Luke (9) Jarvis and Levi (8) Bayley did a fantastic job and Ruby even stood up and thanked everyone using the microphone.  Well done young lady!

A huge thank you to all the sponsors and in particular Hastings Golf Club member Ed Connolly who along with Alan Heatlie from Guthrie Bowron have enabled Hastings Golf Club to host a Pro-Am once again.
