Coronation Cup Finals

Last weekend the finals were played at Waipukurau Golf Club.  Hastings, Wairoa, Napier & Pongaroa competed.  Waipukurau was in terrific condition, unfortunately the wind was a big factor being gale force at times on Saturday.

After three rounds of play Hastings and Wairoa were tied for 1st, Pongaroa 3rd and Napier 4th.  Unfortunately we lost on the countback so Wairoa emerged victorious.

Interestingly, Hastings beat Wairoa in round robin play. No team won all their matches howing how competitive the Coronation Cup is.  

Hastings was represented by: Steve Houlahan, Kris Bower, Tony Johnson, Jim Edwards, Chris Bell, Grant Cullen, Angus Schaw, Mike Hill, Moray Grant, Graeme Campbell, Mike Bourke, Russell Farmery, Jack Sanders and Brent Cullen.

Irrigation Update for Winter 2022

As the end of the growing season is near us, this means we will be continuing with the installation of the irrigation upgrade.

Three years into a now 6-year project this winter will see the continuation of installation of tee box areas as well as the completion of the mainline pipework on the first tee complex and ninth fairway meaning we can backfill and tidy and trench work which has remained visible and open in those areas.

I predict this will take most of the winter, therefore, leaving us with the big task of the fairway installation for the following winter seasons, along with the continuation of the irrigation installation we also have other projects to undertake this winter season.

The major being, burning of the slash and stumps adjacent to the fourth and fifth fairway to start in the coming months.  We have been in communication with the rural fire department and the air and pollution manager from the District Council and on their guidance, we are permitted to undertake the burning of these piles.

We will communicate when this may start, however we need to pick and choose our day which we burn.

Hastings Golf Club On TV Tonight!

Be sure to tune in to TV One tonight at 8:00pm to watch Lap of Luxury.  The Manse owned by members Gary & Dietske is being featured and a lot of footage was shot at the club profiling the course.

Staffing Concerns

As many of you are aware, we are struggling with staff shortages in our F&B team.  If any members know of someone looking for a change please get in touch with Michelle. We are seeking a good 2-3 positions to fill skills ranging from bar (manager's certificate a bonus), barista and front of house allrounders.

A friendly reminder to please respect the staff we do have that are turning up to work.  There are many hours to filfull member requirements with a limited team and they are doing the best they can.

Last week we had limited barista's on, due to isolating, and we envisiage this to continue for a while.  There may be times that barista coffee is unavailable from the clubhouse. If this is the case, you are able to get a coffee from the pro shop as an alternative.  Thanks for your understanding.

Frost Notifications

As we head into the cooler months it's likely there will be some delays with frost.  If this is the case, a direct message will be sent to ALL names on the start sheet for that day advising of the time the course will become open.  Please do not commence your round before this time as it will impact on turf damage.

Rescheduling of Fixtures

We are still encountering postponements in the current environment.  Please do check the daily start sheets as times will open up if changes occur and sit outside the newsletter being published.  

Subscriptions Now Overdue

Members second subscription instalment was due for payment on or before 30 April 2022.  It is appreciated that if you are yet to tidy this payment up it is done so at your earliest convenience.
