Divot Run Thanks

Thank you to our members that came and assisted with the divot run last month.  The team got through a good number of holes during the morning.

The next date to get the balance of the holes completed is set for Wednesday 13 July 2022, 9:00am.  Please note in your diary now if you are able to help.  Please bring a bucket and small shovel and meet at the maintenance sheds.

Practice Guidelines

We understand that 'practice makes perfect', however we would appreciate it if all members could adhere to the practice guidelines here at the club.

Whilst we fully encourage you to practice, please bear in mind the following:

  • Use the designated practice areas, which includes the Short Course, Driving Ranges and Chipping area
  • Use a maximum of 2-3 balls at all times on the Short Course
  • Practice to or on any regular green is strictly prohibited
  • Please ensure that all divots are repaired on all holes

Expressions of Interest in the Role of Junior Golf Co-ordinator

As you may have seen around the club in the past few months, we have had an explosion of junior golfers which has been amazing. Hastings Golf Club welcomes all junior members as they are the future of our club.

We are seeking a Junior Golf Co-ordinator or two people as a shared role from within our membership. The role of the Junior Co-ordinator is one of the most rewarding roles because of the impact it has on developing both golf and life skills of young people. The Junior Coordinator should ideally be a volunteer from within the male or female adult membership. The person who undertakes this role will be compensated for their efforts.

The role entails:

Hours per week: Sunday’s 10:30am - 2:30pm (4 hours)

The occasional change in time during Future events 8 times a year 1:00pm - 5:00pm

The goal would be to have a team of juniors playing in the Hawkes Bay men’s pennants competition in the future. Possibly 2023!

Working alongside our SpecialTee Golf coaches and providing feedback to shape our program to be the best in New Zealand.

Competition support

Teeing our junior golfers off Sunday mornings as per times below.

18 holes - 10:30am

9 holes - 11:15am

4 holes 12:00pm

Once the juniors have teed off drive around in a cart to support them. Once their round is over, give out the prizes and hand the cards into the pro shop to have the order of merit updated.

Futures Event support at other HB clubs

Our juniors will represent Hastings Golf Club and themselves at the Futures and other HB fixture events. Some of our juniors would have played in these events several times yet for some of our juniors this maybe their first event so may need a familiar face and support. There would be approximately 8 events per year.

Continuity is very important in creating a strong junior structure and the Club should encourage anyone wishing to take on the role of Junior Coordinator to commit themselves to at least one year.

As mentioned above we are happy to have an individual or the role could be shared between two people.

We are looking for someone who is a good communicator and loves golf.

Please note that police vetting will be completed to ensure the protection of our young golfers.

Please contact Brett in the pro shop should you require more information on this important position.

Women's Association Day

The women's association day is scheduled for Monday 20 June 2022.  Due to the F&B requirements for this Fairways Cafe will be open from 11am-3pm.

If any other members playing wish to grab some lunch the team will be happy to see you.

Charles Tour to start 2023 in Hawke's Bay

Hastings Golf Club is proud to announce its premier Hastings Open Tournament will now become the newest event on the Charles Tour calendar from January 26th – 29th 2023.

Jonathan Wallace - Wallace Developments, Matt McDowall - Bayswater European and Hastings Golf Club have partnered together to modernise the current format and create a new and exciting experience.

“We have been a proud sponsor of the Hastings Open for the past 3 years and when the opportunity arose to elevate the event to the next level, I thought it was a great idea and it would further enhance the relationship we have with the Hastings Golf Club and the community. We are very happy to be the title sponsor and involved with the family of sponsors. We are excited to grow the event and look forward to providing opportunities for New Zealand’s elite golfers, the amateur participants and giving back to the community”

Jonathan Wallace from Wallace Development

“The opportunity to align ourselves with the event is fantastic and we are keen to be involved. The Bayswater Group appreciate the opportunity to align with likeminded corporate partners who are a nice fit and great supporter of our brands. It is also a great opportunity to get behind and showcase one of the leading events on the Charles Tour at Hastings Golf Club in Hawkes Bay”.

Matt McDowall from Bayswater European

A new unique format will be played incorporating elite amateurs, professionals and those amateurs who enjoy a good corporate event and all it has to offer.

An interesting addition to the tournament will be livestreaming from the club’s fourth hole by Cello NZ showcasing the best the Bridge Pa golf course has to offer.

The format will be unique in that amateur participants will be paired with any golfer who makes the cut for Saturday and Sunday be it professional or elite amateur.  It will give those amateurs interested in experiencing playing on a golf course which will be set up to test the weekend field the chance to do so.

The prestigious history of the Hastings Open will see this event being the 94th running of the event.  Over the years, due to player habits changing, the event has had several makeovers and the team at Hastings Golf Club are confident this will be fit to see the centenary of the Open.

We look forward to working with the teams from Golf New Zealand and PGA New Zealand delivering this tournament.  The Hastings course at Bridge Pa has long been a favourite to many golfers throughout the country.  Elite amateur and professional entries will be handled by these organisations.

Any amateurs (must have a NZGA handicap) wishing to participate in the two-day Pro-Am can contact Brett Allan on for more information.

Course Tidy-Up

You may have noticed the old, broken and asbestos ridden shelters have been removed from the course.  Our greenkeeping team have had a good tidy up of the areas.

There is now an opportunity for sponsorship of a few new bench seats that can replace these to allow for some seating during on-course hold ups, namely the 8th and 13th holes.  The seat will be the same as the memorial seats scattered around the course.

If you wish to sponsor a bench seat the cost is $899.  Please get in touch with Michelle to discuss further.
