Bruce Wakefield Trophy.  Round 1 took place last weekend and results can be found on our website under competition results and also on the men's noticeboard.

SpecialTee Golf King of the Course.  Two rounds have been played with the blue and black tee rounds to take place in August and September.  Results can be found on our website under competition results and also on the men's noticeboard.

Women's Pennants.  There is one round remaining with Hastings Tuis currently sitting first in the individual standings and Hastings Bellbirds sitting mid-table.  In the fourball standings both teams are sitting mid-table and unfortunately cannot mathematically get into first place.

Introducing Our New Hospitality Manager

We are pleased to welcome to the Club, Grant Nicholas CCM, who has commenced his role as Hospitality Manager.  Let's get to know him with a few questions.

What's your background?   I have just completed 21 years working with Remuera Golf Club and during this have had many roles, including supervising and leading the team in bar, cafe and on course golf operations.  Most recently focused solely on hospitality as Clubhouse Manager and growing the event and functions revenue stream.  Prior to RGC, I have always been at the helm of the service industry and focused on roles where I can lead a team to offer service excellence to all guests at all times.

What excites you about your role at the Club? The opportunities at Hastings GC are exciting heading into the future.  The potential redevelopment is a major drawcard as is the chance to provide a destination club to both our members and guests through offering a consistent high level product that our memebrs are proud of.

What the are values that drive you? I am definetely driven by Service, Success and Leadership. By providing our F&B team with the tools to succeed with also drive them to inspire each other and create a fun, creative and enhanced working environment.  Through creating a team, we can further create a sense of belonging and recognise achievements together.

What do you enjoy when you are not working?  I am a golfer and enjoy my time on the course as a burgling 18 handicapper. Outside of golf, I love to follow my Crusaders and our #1 league team - The Warriors.

Favourite golf course/s played?  Wairakei and Arrowtown.

Favourite golfer?  Can't say I have a favourite golfer as my own unorthodox swing will have you guessing every time I step up to the ball.  I have been involved with Long Drive in NZ, Australia and the Cook Islands, which I really enjoy the hype and excitement it brings to the game.

Asahi Promotion Winner

With the recent introduction of Ashai to the club offerings we have been running a promotion to win a branded jacket.  Congratulations to Paul Stewart on being the lucky winner of this.

Keep an eye upstairs as we hope to roll out another promotion in a few weeks.

Junior Update

It was an eventful school holiday for our Hastings juniors with tournaments in the Wellington region, the Hawke's Bay Age Groups and junior winter camp.

The tournaments kicked off at the 2022 Eagles Junior Open held at Paraparaumu GC under wet and windy conditions.  Congratulations to our four juniors that attended; Ruby Jarvis, Luke Jarvis, Levi Bayley and Lachlan Smith.  They then travelled onto the 2022 Futures Wellington Age Grade Championships at Boulcoutts Farm which was equally as windy if not more.

What a great experience for all and a fabulous result for Ruby Jarvis winning the Under 13 Stableford.  Keeping it in the family Luke Jarvis won the Under 13 Stableford as well. Well done to both of you.

During the last week of the school holidays the Hawke's Bay Age Group Championships were held at Napier.  Once again the weather wasn't kind but our Hastings junior members battled on.

We had six juniors that participated:

Ruby Jarvis won the nett division shooting her best score off the yellow tees of 99.  Well done Ruby for breaking 100.

Luke Jarvis placed 3rd in the U13 gross division.

Levi Bayley won the U13 nett division/boys.

George Pogson placed 2nd in the U13 nett division.

George Bidwell placed 5th in the U13 gross division.

Lachlan Smith placed 7th in the U13 gross division.

Our winter camp was held 12-14 July and we had 17 keen young golfers attend.  Congratulations to all the juniors that attended, there were some outstanding results achieved and we all had a blast. Not to mention the yummy morning teas prepared by Fairways, thank you team.

The upcoming term 3 junior programme kicks off on 31st July with over 30 juniors signed up.

We are still after members to support our on course Sunday junior competitions.  Without this support we run the risk of losing our juniors and the momentum the junior programme has had over the past six months.

Lastly, our next junior camp is scheduled for 4-6 October.

Wood Chip Available

You may have noticed the mountain of wood chip behind the second tee after the recent work required to maintain that area.

As there is a fair amount of soil through it we can't pass on to the likes of Pan Pac and our greenkeeping team have no use for it.

So, we are offering this out to our members to take home and use in your own gardens.

There are specific times available where the team will be onsite with a front loader. You will need to come in a ute or bring a trailer.  Access will be from the entry at the far western end.

Times for collection:

Wednesday 17 August - 10am - 12:00pm

Saturday 20 August - 8:00am -10:00am

We will also do a reminder closer to the time.
