2022 Women vs. Men Pennant Challenge

Last Saturday 26th Nov, the inaugural Women vs. Men Pennant players challenge was held.  A new event on the golf programme plus an opportunity for 18 hole pennant representatives to meet on the course.  It was also an opportunity to celebrate the end of season achievements of our Hastings representative players.

There were 28 players in the field and a fun day of golf, albeit highly competitive!

The women were the winners on the day and became the first holders of the Pennant Players Challenge Cup.

Thanks again to all those who participated and we look forward to next year's challenge.

Robyn Stallard & Tim Southward

Women's & Men's Club Captain

Irrigation Replacement Update

December 2022

We set goals at the start of the past winter season to target the completion of all Tee surfaces that will not be affected by the future development of the golf course.

I can happily say this was achieved and now all Tees have been completed. As well as completing the mainlines adjacent to 1 tee and 9 fairways which have visually improved these areas. The mainline is now plumed into the pump shed at 9 and can now be utilized.

I can report the completion of the following:

  • All main lines are completed, pressurized, and ready for utilization.
  • All greens completed and are currently in use.
  • All tees are completed and will be in use next summer.

What’s next?

This leaves us to complete all fairway irrigation- a massive task for our crew, which we anticipate taking the next two winters.

The installation of the irrigation control system-the heartbeat of the system.

All going to plan we will start the installation of fairways in May when the growing season as finished.

We thank you for your patience during this installation and I can only start to express the hard work and time our great greenkeeping team is investing in this project.

Ben Simons

Course Superintendent

Financing

As at 30th November 2022 irrigation replacement cash in bank totals $165,285 with a levy due to be issued in April 2023 generating approximately $85,000.

Quoted pricing for the remainder two years of the project has been received from the supplier.  This includes all hardware to install the fairway mainlines & laterals, wiring of satellite and all sprinklers.  A surge protection system is also included along with project management consulting.

The total quoted price for the final stages over the next two years is $297,310 (ex GST) leaving a project shortfall of $47,025.

As was done a year or so ago when all the pipes were purchased in bulk the Management Committee recently approved to purchase all the hardware as noted above before more price increases incur. As it stands now with supply delays, we are waiting on a May 2023 proposed delivery date.

A huge thanks to our members that gave up their time last week to tackle the gardening work around the clubhouse.  They did a stellar job and very much appreciated to get this work done prior to Christmas.
