Wow it’s been very busy during November and December with events for the Women members and now with Christmas getting closer. My two-year term as Club Captain is completed and I am standing down. I want to thank you the members for your continued support and encouragement during my term, and as Vice Club Captain for two years prior. It has been a privilege to promote the growth and events for Women’s Golf. I am proud of the fact we have introduced new initiates from the Women’s Classic Open Tournament, 9 Hole Shootout and 9 Hole Matchplay, Tuesday Men v Tuesday Women extra day, Pennants Men v Pennants Women, 9 Hole Pennants Competition plus Refresher Umpire Courses for our Competition players and new members. Golf continues to grow at our Club with a full membership.

Champion of Champions

The Hastings Team of Diana Syer, Nichola Dallas and Christine Bird came runner-up by just 1 point to Napier in the Teams Competition.

Congratulations to Diana Syer in winning the Senior Champion of Champions and Congratulations to Jill Marshall in winning the 9-Hole Champion of Champions. Patsy White was runner-up in the Junior section. A fantastic result for our Club.

Winter Prizegiving/ Closing Day 18 Hole & 9 Hole

Our end of season prizegiving closing day competition was well supported by you all. We had 60 Entries in the 18 Hole Division and 32 play in the 9-Hole Division plus several non-player supporters. It certainly was a fun day with the Dice Twist competition and the course was looking in great condition. A wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our Women’s players throughout the year congratulations to all who received Trophies and Prizes.

Pennants Men v Pennants Women

This new Event was held on Saturday 26th November, and we had a total of 26 players competing against each other for the new Trophy. It was an enjoyable day of golf, and all players really enjoyed the format. Well, I am pleased to announce the Women took out the Inaugural Trophy with a resounding win Matchplay won 9 – 5 and 4BBB Stableford 4 ½ - 2 ½. It was also a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our 18-Hole Club Representatives, Pennants Teams results and NZ Representative members plus an opportunity to meet fellow competition members. The players are looking forward to next year’s challenge.

Suzelle Shootout Finals Day

Congratulations to the finalists in qualifying for the 18-Hole and 9-Hole Suzelle Shootout. I want to thank Suzelle for their generous sponsorship of this traditional event and urge you all to get involved in this competition next year. It is now only played over 9 Holes, so it doesn’t take all day. Awesome prizes and a prize for the top qualifiers. The results are: -

Tuesday Men v Tuesday Women – Tuesday 29th November

This is our second challenge for the year and with a total of 56 members out playing for our coveted Trophy. Congratulations to Russell Holland and Tim Southward Men’s Team Captains in taking out the Trophy. The Men’s team won by 0.1 oh so close. Our members really enjoyed the golf and meeting fellow Tuesday players. Congratulations to our top Women Stableford scorers: Robyn Orton 39, Joanne Farmery & Patsy White 38 and Raewyn Shaw, Robyn Stallard & Jennifer Hartley on 37 Stableford Points.

9 Hole – 5 Club Challenge – Wednesday 30th November

The 9-Hole Women members were challenged to a 5-Club Day playing off the Terracotta Tees and one player mentioned she only needed four clubs. Just goes to show you how many clubs you do need. The results are: -

Mona Hunter Challenge – Monday 5th December

This annual competition between Hastings, Waipukurau, and Napier was held at the Napier Golf Club. The Hastings Team was Louise Sanko, Robyn Stallard, Annabelle Absolom, Jane Howie, Kate Barr, Patsy White and Buffy Longstaff. Napier were the winners on the day. 

Edna Farrell 18h - Christmas Cheer – Tuesday 6th December

The weather turned it on for us and it was wonderful to see you all getting into the Christmas Spirit dressing up and playing in our final fixture for the year. We had 55 players and 13 teams vying for the Team Prizes. Lots of fun and laughs.

9h Christmas Cheer – Wednesday 7th December

Once again, the 9-Hole members really embraced the Christmas Cheer dressing up in their Outfits. The format was a Team Stableford & Individual Competition together with Bingo, Bango, Bongo which was fun and kept us all on our toes. Everyone had a chance to get a point and to those lucky ones doubling their points.

My two-year term has come to an end, and I welcome Annabelle Absolom as your new Club Captain, Christine Bird, Vice Club Captain, and Jane Howie who is on the Golf Committee. I encourage you in supporting them in their roles. Thanks to Meg and Michelle in the Office for your support. A big thankyou to the Pro shop team Brett, Josh, Jasmine, and AJ. Particularly AJ who was my main contact in assisting with the results, data input, competition days and support for Women’s Golf. I wish to thank our Pennants Team Captains and to Vicki Sutcliffe in her support and encouragement of the 9-Hole Members. Plus, not to mention a big thank you to Fairways Café/Bar team Grant, Aleshia, Acacia and co. Thank you also to Ben Simons and the Greenkeepers Team for presenting the Hastings Golf Course in amazing condition. We are very proud of our Golf Course.

In closing it’s my last Women’s Update I wish you all a Wonderful Christmas and Happy Holiday’s, enjoy your time with family and friends, and I look forward to seeing you all on the Course next Year.
