Dear Guest,

Irrigation Work and Club Competition’s being played Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday

For the holes out of play please write down the score that would give you two stableford points on that hole.

The computer will then work out your net score for competitions.

Why has there been four weeks Tuesdays without a Competition?

Firstly, from this Saturday, there is only ONE Tuesday until the end of October without a competition, so those who want competitions – start entering!

I understand some women members last Tuesday were disappointed as it had been four weeks since they had played a competition and want to know why nothing had been organised.

The reasoning: On Monday the course was closed to aerate the greens therefore, Tuesday’s competition was moved as it would have been a big disadvantage for the Tuesday players to compete with Saturday players due to greens being cored.

The previous three weeks were over school holidays, and it was mentioned that quite a few people were away and some grandparents like to help out with their grandchildren, that competitions are not played over this time.

It is now noted you want competitions over school holidays so when the calendar is set in October for next year, I will make a point of adding in hidden holes and some other fun golf competitions over this period. (survey coming please give feedback).

I might take the opportunity to say that you and your tee group could also take some initiative and organise a game between yourselves - prize being a coffee at the end! (I do know some of you do this and I commend you in doing so – thank you)

Below are some suggested games you could play within your tee group: (print off and give it a try)

  1. Play off terracotta tees
  2. 5/7 (or whatever number you choose) club challenge.
  3. Irish Stablefords
  • 1st 3 holes = Stableford
  • 2nd 3 holes = Double Stableford
  • 3rd 3 holes= Triple Stableford   (18 hole players change 3 to 6 holes)
  1. Putting – Count the total number of putts over 9 or 18 holes
  2. Putting – Team putting – total for 2 players combined score
  3. Drives landing on the fairway = 1 point

One Putt = 2 points

  1. Lagging – Once all balls are on the green – points as follows;
  • Closest to the pin = 4 points
  • Next closest = 3 points
  • 3rd closest = 2 points
  • 4th no points

Noteworthy Rounds of Golf

Congratulations Buffy Longstaff for playing 9 under her handicap, it was apparently the day after clinching a match play win on the 20th hole! What a lady!

Congratulations Phillipa Cook the winner of The Campbell Cup for 2023 Silver Division. 2/1. Off handicap, Phillipa said to me as they walked off hole 18, “It’s just so lovely to watch her play golf”. Diana came home with 3 birdies on the last 3 holes. Both women played exceptional golf under competition conditions, 2 under for Phillipa and 1 under for Diana. There was great sportsmanship between them both, complimenting each other’s rounds on the way they played, it really showed a great match that could have gone either way, congratulations - well done.

Congratulations Martha Manaea who also made the final of the 54 hole competition at Waipawa Matchplay. A loss against Aseri Meikle 2/1.  Here is what Martha had to say; “The numbers were down this year, and the divisions were all off handicap. First round was a qualifying nett round. Then seeded from there. The course is recovering well after the cyclone. Still muddy and heavy under the foot on some parts of the course. Felt privileged to be able to support the club.” Photo of the Cup Final; Aseri and Martha is on display in the Women’s Locker room.

Longest Putt - Saturday – Lois Campbell

Nearest to the Pin – Congratulations Tuesday – Wendy Nichol

Kind regards
