Dear Guest,

Course Items

Trees

You undoubtedly would have noticed the decline of the trees lining our driveway.  This has occured due to the amount of water and wet conditions we have had over the past 12 months.  As a result, the trees have unfortunately developed "root rot".

This is due to poorly drained or overwatered soils.  These soggy conditions prevent roots from absorbing all the oxygen they require to live.  As the oxygen-starved roots die and decay, their rot can spread to healthier roots, even if the soggy conditions have been rectified.

The symptoms of root rot are obviously easier to spot above ground.

  • Gradual or quick decline without an obvious reason
  • Stunted or poor growth
  • Small, pale leaves
  • Wilted, yellor, or browned leaves
  • Branch dieback
  • Thinning of the canopy

We will monitor this issue closely and keep you informed in any decisions.

Driving Range and Par 3 Tees

Maintenance on the driving range and par 3 tees will be undertaken on Wednesday 25 October.  The range will be closed from 6:30am until 10:00am on this day.

This will involve over-seeding these areas.  It is essential we give the seed the best chance to germinate.  Can you please ensure you practice on the mats provided inside the driving range and not on the grass.

The par 3 course tee markers will be moved of fthe tees and placed in a different area giving the tee areas time to recover.  Please ensure you tee off from where the tee markers have been placed.

Coring

A reminder the course is closed next Mon-Weds for coring maintenance.

NZ Falcons - Karearea

The Falcons have returned to us for a second season and appear to have settled on an area around the the toilets near 8th/9th holes for breeding.

These are protected birds and further enquiries with DOC didn't result in any options.  We must be vigilant and golf around them.

Please take extra care around holes 7, 8, 9, 12 & 13 wear a hat and have an umbrella up.

We will continue to monitor and will advise if any drop zones are necessary.

Greenwood Cup - rounds 1-3

The weekend of 14/15 October saw the Hastings Greenwood Cup team represent the club at Dannevirke.

The first match on Saturday morning was against Onga Onga.  We were looking at a heavy loss but the guys rallied well and we lost 4.5/5.5.

The afternoon round saw us take on the hosts Dannevirke who handed Maraenui a loss in the morning.  We came away with a 7.5/2.5 win which was a great result against the hosts.

Sunday morning was against the combined CHB team and we had Leo Dixon make his senior debut for us and he notched up a half in his match as we won against CHB 9.5/0.5.

Overall, a great weekend with a great group of Hastings members representing the club.  The weather wasn't flash for the weekend and the greenkeeper set some very challenging pins but our team handled the conditions well.

A special mention to Mike Trass, Sam Eichorn, Mark Tasker, Leo Dixon and Nic Schnell who were undefeated in their matches.

The next rounds are on 18th & 19th November at Hawke's Bay Golf Club.  We need to win all our games to be in the running at retaining the Greenwood Cup.

Cashmore Foursomes

The Cashmore Foursomes competition is being held this Saturday and tee bookings are still available.  Foursomes are a pretty rare golfing experience now days so here's an opportunity.

Foursomes is a format where a pair of golfers form a team and play a single golf ball between them.  They take alternate shots.

Find a partner and call the pro shop to book your tee time.
