Exciting 2024 for Hastings Golf Club
Recently the club was given an opportunity and after working through the pros and cons of this, we are delighted to announce that Hastings Golf Club will host the 2024 New Zealand PGA Championship!
The status of this event is huge and without a doubt it’s the next biggest tournament after the New Zealand Open. A testament to Bridge Pa and the hard work our team does daily.
With the support of Wallace Development Company and all current sponsors of the Hastings Open Charles Tour, the event will have an increased prize purse of $75,000 and be played the week after the New Zealand Open, 5-10 March 2024.
The last PGA Championship that was held here was in 1949 with the New Zealand Open and PGA Championship, won by Bob Glading (who won 2up against Jim Galloway). Some 75 years later we are proud to be given the opportunity to have this prestigious event back with us.
President Wayne Mudgway says this is the icing on the cake after coming off such a successful 125 Year Club celebration. We look forward to getting 2024 off to an exciting start for the club with the NZ Men’s Seniors in February followed up with the PGA Champs.
Jonathan Wallace reaffirms the feelings and thoughts involved in bringing this event to Hawke's Bay, and that Wallace Development Company is proud to support the PGA event as we see it as a great benefit to both The Hastings Golf Club and the Hawke's Bay region as a whole.
All Hawke’s Bay golf fans will be treated to a high-quality field of players all keen to add their name to the illustrious honour roll of previous champions dating back to 1920.

So, what happens to the Hastings Open?
The 95th Hastings Open will now revert to an amateur 72-hole standalone event on the calendar holding the usual dates over Auckland Anniversary weekend, 27 & 28 January 2024. This will no doubt please our members who didn’t have an opportunity to participate in the Hastings Open this year.
Wallace Development Company continues to sponsor this tournament also, and we thank them for their commitment to this tournament.
The Wallace Development Hastings Open will have Golf New Zealand OOM status.
Entries for this tournament are now open and entry can be made from the club’s website www.hastingsgolfclub.co.nz. The tournament is open for men and women with men still able to select an elite (Black tee) or premier (Blue tee) division.
